How the American Publishers Audiobook Process Works
We follow a proven process to help you find the ideal narrator to bring your book to life. From there, we handle recording, production, and distribution across all major audiobook platforms.
(1) Preparation
Your audiobook journey begins with you telling us who your ideal narrator is. The more specific you are, the better. With access to thousands of professional narrators, we’ll find someone who fits your voice and has experience in your industry.
If you prefer to narrate your book yourself, our audiobook producer will schedule your recording sessions based on your availability.
Before recording starts, we use Pozotron to identify potentially tricky words in your manuscript. Each flagged word is paired with a recorded pronunciation guide, used throughout the recording and post-production to ensure consistency.
(2) Recording
- The first recording session is about getting comfortable with the studio, finding your rhythm, and refining the voice for your audiobook.
- A dedicated director will be present during the reading to ensure accurate pronunciation, strong pacing, and consistent tone. Their job is to guide the narrator and bring out the best possible performance.
- We collaborate with top-tier professionals to ensure the highest production quality.
(3) Post Production
- An editing engineer reviews the recording, making adjustments to pacing and removing background noises like pops or clicks.
- After editing, a quality control engineer steps in to double-check everything. They ensure the final product is seamless, polished, and free of any audio errors.
- Once post-production is complete, you’ll have the opportunity to review the audiobook. If any changes or re-recordings (pickups) are needed, we’ll schedule and re-master those sections as well.
(4) Launch
- Your audio files are uploaded and begin the review process. Once approved, your audiobook is sent to retailers, and it typically goes live within 5 weeks.
- About 2 months after your audiobook goes live, you’ll be able to check sales reports for each platform.
